About Moxiford® Eye Drops

Rating of sales:

Description

Moxiford® Eye Drops are manufactured by Leeford. The medication possesses Moxifloxacin as an active ingredient, a fourth-generation broad-spectrum antibiotic from the drug class called Fluoroquinolones (also known as Quinolones).

Indications:

- bacterial conjunctivitis, caused by Moxifloxacin susceptible strains.

MOA (mechanism of action):

Moxifloxacin enters the bacterial cells and inhibits a bacterial enzyme called DNA-gyrase. This enzyme is involved in replicating and repairing the genetic material (DNA) of the bacteria. If this enzyme doesn't work, the bacteria cannot reproduce or repair themselves and this kills the bacteria.

Moxifloxacin is effective against gram-positive bacteria (Corynebacterium species, Streptococcus viridans Group), gram-negative bacteria (Enterobacter cloacae, Haemophilus influenzae, Klebsiella oxytoca, Moraxella catarrhalis, Serratia marcescens), anaerobic microorganisms (Proprionibacterium acnes) etc.

Dosage

The recommended dose is 1 drop into the treated eye(s) 3 times a day.

Continue using drops for 5 days. After the infection improves, instill drops for a further 2-3 days.

If no improvement is observed within 5 days of initiating therapy, the diagnosis or treatment should be redetermined.

The duration of treatment depends on the severity of the disorder.

Precautions:

Moxifloxacin solution is not for injection.

Moxifloxacin solution is associated with allergic reactions, even following a single dose. Discontinue using drops immediately and contact your physician at the first sign of a rash or allergic reaction.

Prolonged use of Moxiford® Eye Drops may result in overgrowth of non-susceptible organisms, including fungi. If superinfection occurs, discontinue using these drops and institute alternative therapy.

Moxiford® Eye Drops may cause your vision to blur temporarily after you have applied them into your eye. Do not drive or operate machinery until this has worn off.

Avoid contaminating the applicator tip with eye, fingers or another source.

Moxiford® Eye Drops contain benzalkonium chloride which may cause irritation and is known to discolor soft contact lenses.

Patients should not wear contact lenses while using Moxifloxacin solution for eye infection.

Wash your hands before using the eye drops.

Missing a dose

If you miss a dose you should instill it as soon as you remember about your missing. If it is the time for the next dose you should continue your regular dosing schedule. Do not instill a double dose to make up for a missed one.

Overdose

If an overdose occurs and you are not feeling well, stop taking the medication immediately. You should seek emergency medical attention or contact your healthcare provider immediately.

Storage

Store at cool room temperature, away from moisture and heat. Do not freeze. Keep the bottle tightly closed when not in use. Use within one month after opening a container. Keep out of the reach of children.
