About Albucid Ophthalmic Solution

Rating of sales:

Description

Albucid eye drops comprise an active ingredient called Sulphacetamide, which is a Sulfonamide antibiotic.

Indications:

- bacterial conjunctivitis (an infectious inflammation of the conjunctiva) and other superficial eye infections;

- an adjunctive in systemic sulfonamide therapy of trachoma (an infectious disease caused by bacterium Chlamydia trachomatisas).

Sulphacetamide shows efficacy against Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus pneumoniae, Streptococcus (viridans group), Haemophilus influenzae, Klebsiella species, and Enterobacter species.

MOA (mechanism of action):

Sulphacetamide is a synthetic bacteriostatic drug and a competitive inhibitor of bacterial para-aminobenzoic acid (PABA), which is required for bacterial synthesis of folic acid and is an essential component for bacterial growth. Therefore, the multiplication of bacteria is inhibited by the action of Sulphacetamide.

Dosage

For conjunctivitis and other superficial eye infections: instill 1 or 2 drops into the conjunctival sac(s) of the treated eye(s) every 2 to 3 hours initially.

Dosages may be reduced by increasing the time interval between doses as the condition responds. The usual duration of treatment is 7 to 10 days.

For trachoma: instill 2 drops into the conjunctival sac(s) of the treated eye(s) every 2 hours. Topical administration must be accompanied by systemic administration.

Precautions:

Albucid eye drops contain preservative benzalkonium chloride which may be deposited in soft contact lenses.

You can put your soft contact lenses back into your eyes 15 minutes after you have used Albucid eye drops.

If using other eye drops in addition to Albucid eye drops, wait at least 5 minutes before putting any other drops in your eye(s).

Your eyes may also become sensitive to light; minimize the use of computers and mobile phones as much as you can.

Albucid eye drops are associated with allergic reactions, even following a single dose. Discontinue using Albucid eye drops immediately and contact your physician at the first sign of a rash or allergic reaction.

Avoid contaminating the applicator tip with eye, fingers or another source.

Wash your hands before using the eye drops.

Missing a dose

If you miss a dose you should instill it as soon as you remember about your missing. If it is the time for the next dose you should continue your regular dosing schedule. Do not instill a double dose to make up for a missed one.

Overdose

If an overdose occurs and you are not feeling well, stop taking the medication immediately. You should seek emergency medical attention or contact your healthcare provider immediately. A topical overdose of Besivance ophthalmic solution may be flushed from the eye(s) with lukewarm tap water.

Storage

Store at 8°-25°C (46°-77°F). Protect from light. Sulfonamide solutions, on long-standing, will darken in color and should be discarded. Keep from the reach of children. Don’t refrigerate the drops.
